Hey, blogspot readers, SouthSide's ever expanding CD collection has exploded with new CDs in which she feels you should add to your collection.

"The Troubles" - GoodByeHome

SouthSide missed this local band's recent performance during the Chicago Roots Collective showcase. However, this reviewer highly suggests snagging a copy of GoodByeHome's The Troubles CD. She enjoyed the lively music of Americana/alternative with country/acoustic sound. Also she liked the violin rhythm which at times gave certain songs that energetic spark. Even while listening to a ballad, you'll still notice the vibrant music while hearing the heartfelt emotion in Greg Combs'(GoodByeHome's front man) vocals. This entire album consists of storytelling-style songs highlight the troubles faced and experienced within life, love and one's self. SouthSide recommends listening to all 14 tracks but her favorites were the following: Track 4 - County Line Road, Track 8 - Chemicals & Compromise, Track 13 - Impossible Light and Track 14 - Rain Dance. "Radius Of Action" - Mayday Radio

SouthSide found this CD during her recent visit to the Elbo Room and decided to give it a spin on the stereo system. And she's excited that she did. This reviewer highly suggests snagging a copy of Mayday Radio's Radius Of Action CD. This entire eleven-track album of rockin' powerpop/rock music featured strong vocals by front man, Jeff Ting. Listen to Track 3 - The Firing Line, which clearly demonstrated the heartfelt power and emotions of his voice. You can hear that passion pouring out of his voice as well as soul during each song. Another prime example of this would be Track 5 - Castle and Track 11 - Point Of Return (which sounds to be an acoustic version). Other tracks SouthSide suggests listening to are: Track 1 - Automatic Life, Track 7 - Proselytize, Track 8 - Solarbryte and Track 10 - Brave New Day (what an uplifting and inspirational song). "Kali Ma" - Kali Ma

SouthSide has an awesomely cool prize for the first person who can answer this question correctly (and NO using Google.com for the answer either!). Which movie does the name Kali Ma first appear?

This reviewer found the use of a fictional cult name from a box-office hit movie as a name for a rock quite interesting as well as their music totally rockin'. She highly suggests snagging a copy of Kali Ma's self-titled CD. Her stereo system was groovin' to the hard-hitting guitar riffs and rhythms that had SouthSide head banging to the songs. She suggests listening to Track 1 - The Abbot & The Monk and Track 2 - Jimi Hendrix (for the wicked psychedelic guitar jam at the end). Also she know your head will be rockin' to Kali's instrumental Tracks 4 , You Hesitate, You Die, and 8, Complicated Jam. She didn't know what made this track so complicated but it rocked! The test audience liked the pseudo anti-religion song, Programmer God (Track 9) for its trippy guitar riffs of hardcore/metal sound. Actually the entire CD was a blast to rock to. Kali Ma will be rockin' the stage live on Sunday, April 11 at the Elbo Room. Or befriend them on Facebook.com.

Until next time, support your local scene,
SouthSide
